I do about 4 or 5 miles per day walking in the woods and know I should wear hiking boots, but I decided to wear these for 1 day to break them in and then go back to my sneakers or hiking shoes. I was willing to suffer 1 day to break these in. That was last week and I've been wearing them everyday since then. No break-in period for me..they've been very comfortable. I did put thin foot insoles in but I do that with all of my footwear before I put them on...so I'm not sure how they would be without them. I'm guessing they would be OK. It has rained a few days here and so far they are definitely waterproof. These boots also look good for riding my motorcycle. I got the charcoal color and they are sharp looking. I'm going to buy another pair over the Winter in another color since I'm so happy with these. I highly recommend these boots.
